How to Stop Googling and Actually Move Abroad: The Anti-Overwhelm Plan

There’s a special kind of hell reserved for people trying to move abroad armed only with optimism and 47 open Chrome tabs.

You start off with “countries that are easiest for Americans to move to” and three hours later you’re knee-deep in an expat Reddit thread arguing about whether Portugal or Poland has cheaper dental care — even though you don’t speak Portuguese, Polish, or basic common sense at this point.

Let’s be honest: you’re not researching.
    You’re spiraling.

And I get it — Google makes it look like you’re being productive.
    You’re gathering information! You’re learning!
    You’re doing “the work!”

Except… you’re not moving. You’re just marinating in confusion.

The problem isn’t Google. It’s how you’re using it.

Google is like a buffet: endless options, zero portion control.
You go in for “visa information” and end up with a plate full of blog posts from 2018, a YouTube video from a guy who clearly hasn’t left his mom’s basement, and a government website that looks like it was coded on dial-up.

    You don’t need more information.
    You need direction.

Here’s what I tell my clients: stop trying to research your way to courage.

You’re not stuck because the info isn’t out there.
You’re stuck because you don’t trust yourself to make a decision without reading “just one more thing.”

Every extra tab you open is you whispering,

    “I’ll move abroad… once I know everything.”

    Newsflash: you won’t.
No one does. Not even me, and I literally built a business around this.

You don’t need more tabs. You need a timeline.

The easiest way to stop the spiral?
    Pick a date. Any date.
Not a “someday.” A real one.

When you attach a timeline to your move, everything else falls in line.
You stop asking, “What if?” and start asking, “Okay, what next?”
And suddenly, you have momentum, not mental clutter.

If you don’t know where to start, fine.
Use a freebie, my checklist, or a guide that gives you an actual order to things.
    Because that’s what’s missing.
    It’s not motivation. It’s sequencing.

And if we’re being real for a second…

Half of your overwhelm is just fear wearing a productivity hat.
You’re scared to choose the “wrong” country.
    Or the “wrong” visa.
Or that you’ll uproot your whole life, and it’ll all go sideways.

So you keep Googling, hoping one magical blog post will confirm the universe wants you to move to Spain.

    It won’t.

You’ll just end up tired, overwhelmed, and slightly resentful of anyone who already did what you’re still only “researching.”

    So here’s your anti-overwhelm plan:

    1. Pick a country.
Not your forever country. Just your first one.

    2. Set a date.
Not when it’s convenient when it’s realistic.

    3. Find one reliable source (hi 👋, that’s me).
      And block the rest.

Then stop Googling and start moving.

Because no one gets a visa for “extensive research.”
You either do it, or you don’t.
